Geniuses were using the stimulating ways instinctively. And it is unnecessary to mention that some geniuses drank alcohol to stimulate their creative work. Socrates, Seneca and some others abused alcohol so much that some of them even had alcoholic addiction.

Features of geniuses

In wild and active life of geniuses there are moments when these people are very similar to crazy people as there are a lot of identical characteristics between people with mental diseases and geniuses. Such similar features are sensitivity, originality of aesthetic artworks, the ability to discoveries, unconscious creativity, the use of special expressions, the strong absent-mindedness, the incline to suicide as well as alcohol abuse and great vanity.

However there are crazy people among geniuses as well as there are geniuses among mentally sick people. But it would be mistake to consider that all geniuses are mentally ill and vice versa. Such conclusion means that all talented people are sick and it is wrong.

If genius was always accompanied with mental diseases then how can we explain the phenomena of Gelileo, Keller, Voltaire, Napoleon, Michelangelo, etc. that are people that suffered a lot during their lives but that didn't show the features of mental diseases.

Moreover genius is manifested much earlier than mental disorders that usually reach the highest point of their development at the age of 35 when genius is reflected in childhood already and develops greatly during adolescence. Alexander the Great was at the highest point of his popularity at the age of 20, Carl the Great at the age of 30 and Napoleon at the age of 26.
